(OCT 5) Last night at the Mandalay
Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, Joel Casamayor
began his second reign as IBA World Jr. Lightweight Champion with a stoppage win at the end of round six over former IBA Champion, Diego Corrales. Corrales, bleeding from an accidental clash of heads, was down early in round three and again a round later but would rise to return the favor in a wild fourth round of action. Casamayor would regain control in round five and would close the show in round six with two hard lefts that left Corrales bleeding severely from a cut above his lip. Acting on the advice of respected ringside physician Dr. Margaret Goodman, referee Tony Weeks halted the action before the start of round seven. Casamayor improves to 30-1 while recording his 19 knockout. |
