LAS VEGAS
(SEPT 23) Last night at the Mandalay Bay Events Center,
in front of a crowd of 4,708 boxing fans, Fernando
"Vicious" Vargas, 153 1/2, (22-1
(20KO) became the International Boxing Association
and World Boxing Association 154-pound titles when he
stopped southpaw Jose "Shibata" Flores, 153
1/2, in the seventh round. The event was
filled with emotion as just prior to the Vargas/Flores
fight, there was a tribute to those who lost their lives
in the September 11 New York terrorist attack.
Both Vargas and Flores came into the ring for the
tribute instead of having the traditional entrance that
boxers usually go through.
